Coils and IUDs
Coil Fitting and Removal
Our coil fitting service is available to anyone considering an intrauterine device (IUD or IUS) either for contraception or as part of Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) to support perimenopause and menopause symptoms.
All procedures are carried out by our inhouse gynaecologist and a registered Faculty of Sexual and Reproductive Health coil and implant fitter, Dr Sarah Aulds.
If you have been advised to have a coil or implant fitted but have not previously seen Dr Sarah Aulds, a 10minute telephone consultation will be required before the procedure. This ensures the treatment is appropriate for you and gives you the opportunity to discuss the process.
If you are unsure whether a coil is the right option, you can book an initial consultation with Dr Aulds for a thorough assessment of your needs.
What to Expect at Your Appointment
Your appointment will begin with a discussion with Dr Aulds to confirm your medical history, answer any questions, and ensure the coil is the right choice for you.
During the fitting:
Some women experience cramping during or shortly after the procedure, which usually settles quickly.
You will be given aftercare advice, including what to expect over the next few days and when to seek medical attention if needed.
Follow-up Appointment
We usually recommend a followup appointment around 6 weeks after fitting to check the coil threads and ensure everything is in the correct position. This can be done with Dr Aulds or your GP, depending on your preference.
