Hyperhidrosis Treatment

Hyperhidrosis is a medical condition characterised by excessive sweating that is not necessarily related to heat or physical exertion. It can affect various parts of the body, such as the underarms, palms, feet, and face.

Hyperhidrosis can be caused by overactive sweat glands, which produce more sweat than is necessary to regulate body temperature. It may also be associated with certain medical conditions, medications, or genetic factors.

Hyperhidrosis treatment aims to reduce excessive sweating and improve quality of life for affected individuals. Treatment options may include topical antiperspirants, oral medications, wrinkle relaxing injections,  iontophoresis, and surgical procedures.

Anti-wrinkle injections are a popular and effective option for treating hyperhidrosis. The toxin is injected into the skin, where it blocks the release of acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter that stimulates sweat production.

They can be used to treat hyperhidrosis in various areas of the body, including the underarms (axillary hyperhidrosis) and forehead (craniofacial hyperhidrosis).

The effects of this treatment typically last for several months, with most patients experiencing a significant reduction in sweating for 6 to 12 months after treatment. Repeat injections may be necessary to maintain results over time.

These generally well-tolerated and associated with minimal discomfort. Topical anesthesia or ice packs may be applied to the treatment area to minimise any discomfort during the procedure.

Common side effects may include temporary redness, swelling, bruising, or pain at the injection site. These side effects typically resolve within a few days to weeks.

Individuals who experience excessive sweating that significantly impacts their daily activities and quality of life may be good candidates.
